Your WeatherPromise pays out on one thing: rain, measured at your destination during your trip. Rain is recorded using independent, official weather sources such as NASA, NOAA and JAXA, and compared with the hours and days written into your WeatherPromise. If the rain passes that line, a payout is triggered automatically. Nothing to file, no paperwork.
Storms and hurricanes count when they bring rain
A tropical storm that dumps rain for most of a day counts the same way any rainy day does. You can follow it hour by hour on your dashboard along with us.
Wind, flooding and road closures don't count on their own
High winds, storm surge, coastal flooding, power outages, evacuation orders, canceled flights and a destination you couldn't reach are not measured, so they don't trigger a payout by themselves. WeatherPromise doesn't pay for canceled trips, lost nights or the cost of getting there. It pays when it rains more than promised while you're there.
Forecasts don't trigger a payout either
A storm warning or a state of emergency changes nothing until the rain is recorded. Your trip is evaluated after it ends, based on the rainfall recorded while you were away.
If severe weather is making you rethink the trip
You have two options, and the choice is yours. If you decide not to go, you're welcome to reach out with your contract number and we'll walk you through canceling your WeatherPromise and returning what you paid. If you'd rather keep it in place, nothing changes: you take the trip, the rain is recorded, and if it passes your threshold you get paid.
Proof of travel
Before a payout is made, you may be asked to confirm you were there, for example with your booking confirmation. It's a quick check and it protects everyone's payouts.
If your trip is canceled before it starts
When your host, airline or booking partner cancels the booking, your WeatherPromise ends with it and what you paid comes back to your original payment method. Moving your trip to dodge a storm can also cancel the original WeatherPromise. Here's what happens then: Why was my WeatherPromise canceled after I changed my booking?
Whatever the sky does, we're watching it for you. If anything here is unclear for your trip, we're always here.
